PROJECT UPDATES - AUGUST 2015

Major Activities

Structure:

Parking garage concrete work is continuing to ramp up. The first elevator core pour was completed on July 13th and the self-climbing formwork is continuing to be assembled. Two more elevator core pours are scheduled for this month. Eventually, the cycle time of the core pours will be reduced to approximately a floor a week. The core is scheduled to reach 5th Avenue elevation
in late September.

Public Impacts

5th Avenue:

For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.

Columbia St:

The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.

Mobilizations/Street Closures:

The last of major road closures have been completed until approximately January 2016, when the large steel beams that span from Level 1 to Level 5 will be erected. This will require a full closure of 5th Ave between Columbia and Marion Streets. Periodic lane closures on Columbia St. will still be necessary for the next 5-6 months as the perimeter walls and steel erection for the parking garage on the west side of the project are completed.
