PROJECT UPDATES - October 2015

Posted on

Major Activities

Structure:

Four additional concrete elevator core pours were completed in September and the assembly of the self-climbing formwork is complete. The core has reached 5th Avenue elevation. Core pours will continue to be
poured at a rate of one floor per week. The construction elevator that will be used to access the core has been mobilized and installation has begun. Steel erection prework continues in the parking garage in anticipation of a structural steel erection start in December 2015/January 2016.

Public Impacts

5th Avenue:

For safety, the west sidewalk between Columbia Street and Marion Street will remain closed to
pedestrians throughout the duration of the project. The west side traffic lane will be closed for construction Monday – Friday, between 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and on Saturdays (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) as required.
Columbia St: The north sidewalk between 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue will remain closed throughout the duration of the project as this is a concrete pumping station and will serve as the location for a construction elevator and other primary building functions.

Mobilizations/Street Closures:

The last of major road closures have been completed until approximately January 2016, when the large steel beams that span from Level 1 to Level 5 will be erected. This will require a full closure of 5th Ave between Columbia and Marion Streets. Periodic lane closures on Columbia St. will still be necessary for the next 3-4 months as the perimeter walls and steel erection for the parking garage on the west side
of the project are completed.
